Good place for catfish?

There is a small slow river tributary that feeds into the mouth of a larger river that creates a deep pool with muddy banks and snags nearby. I have been fishing it with cut shad, liver, and shrimp but haven't had much luck. I feel pretty sure it would be a hotspot for catfish. I haven't had a chance to fish it in the evening and it's also fairly cold out. Is this a good spot? What are some good ways or methods to catch them? Thanks in advance.
