Since when did America Start Labeling Hispanics and Latinos as "WHITE"?

When Latinos and/or Hispanics were arrested.. and that was a pretty substantial number of people, they were told to tell the jailer they were white. And it turns out that was acceptable because the Americans are, as are the Mexicans, a combination of European/Slavic/Moorish/and first settler. Sorry about that... we are the same race.
