Why is it that some women are attracted to violent men that abuse them ?

This a well known phenomenon that has been highlighted over the years by such people as Erin Pizzey. I myself had a girlfriend who had spent time in a woman's refuge. She told me one of the biggest problems they had was the women who were there telling the address of the place to the men who had abused them. Result ? You had abusive men turning up at a woman's refuge indulging in unacceptable behaviour, a place meant to be secret from such people. Brilliant !!!
